Tesco Computers for Schools was launched in Ireland in 1998 with one simple objective - to help the schools of Ireland to get more computer equipment, accessories and software into their classrooms!

This year Tesco Computers for Schools celebrates its tenth birthday and the scheme is still as popular as ever. More than 4500 primary, secondary and special needs schools are registered to participate in the scheme and to date we've delivered almost €11 million worth of computers and computer equipment to schools all over the country.

Taking part in the Computers for Schools scheme is easy! Each year every registered school in the Republic of Ireland is sent a Computers for Schools pack. This includes an equipment catalogue and order form as well as posters and other items to help the school promote their collection. Teachers and parents shop at Tesco as normal and receive one Computers for Schools voucher for every €10 they spend*. Schools collect these vouchers and use them to order computer equipment and software from the catalogue.

We know how important it is that the equipment provided through the scheme matches the needs of the schools. That's why every year we revise and update our range of equipment, introducing new products all the time. Over the years we've extended the range to include not just computer equipment and software but DVD players, digital cameras and lots more. This year the we’ve included lots of new products including a whole new arts and crafts section and a range of Irish language products. Look out for the new innovative RM Asus miniBook laptop computer.

Last year we introduced a new element to the scheme whereby schools can recycle old mobile phones and ink jet cartridges in return for Computers for Schools vouchers. The Recycle with Tesco Computers for Schools programme was developed in association with Redeem PLC and means that schools can collect vouchers all year round, helping them reach their collection targets even faster!

This year’s Computers for Schools scheme launched on March 3rd and the voucher collection period ends on May 11th. The closing date for orders is Friday 4th July and the equipment will be delivered before the end of November 2008.
